HMC, aka Late Nite Tuff Guy, is unquestionably one of Australia's foremost dance-music pioneers and visionaries. His name is mentioned in reverential tones alongside other dance-music legends such as Moodyman, Ritchie Hawtin & Kevin Saunderson and his lengthy discography is literally filled with classic-after-classic, dating all the way back to 1991.
Whether he creates a delicate soundscape of subtle soulfulness or a hedonistic party-anthem, he does so with creativity & love, aiming for the heart and never the charts.
With his first-ever solo album due for release on Lightspeed Recordings in January, 2011, we thought it timely to revisit some of our favourite HMC moments, starting with his super-hit "Phreakin'", it's thumping B-side "Cum On" and his techno behemoth "Marauder". Also included in this EP is a nice reworking of "Cum On" by Accentbuster as well as Radio/Video edits of "Phreakin'" and "Marauder".
For some of you, these tracks may be a trip down memory-lane, and for others, they may be newly-discovered, but whatever they are for you, we trust you'll enjoy them as much as we have.
